The intense forest fires that have been raging in the Gironde region of southwestern France have left 20,000 people evacuated from their homes, with destruction spread over thousands of hectares of forests surrounding the Arcachon Bay. There are hundreds of firefighters who have been struggling against the wind and heat, while in other parts of the region in Spain and Italy, there have been other forest fires too.
